Chapter Twenty-One

Shopping with Harrison for Christmas gifts was a completely new experience. Usually Christmas shopping for the girls involved her running out during lunch breaks and shopping. Whatever they received for the holidays was from her. David conveniently didn’t believe in supporting the new meaning of Christmas. So no gifts from him and no money towards their gifts either.

Felicia found herself having to be the mean one and make Harrison put toys back. She had a plan and was working from a list the girls had given her. He was working from the conversations he’d had with them. Felicia put her foot down and told him that he could get them one gift each and one gift only.

“You have no idea how much you turn me on when you get all authoritative on me.” Harrison whispered in her ear as he pushed the cart from behind her. Trapping her between him and the cart. Felicia giggled and blushed, well as much as she was able to.

That’s how Harrison’s mom and his sister Emma found them when they ran into them in the toy aisle of the department store. Felicia was unable to hide the look of surprise when she looked up to see them staring at them. Felicia had to elbow Harrison three times before he caught her drift and stopped nibbling on her neck.

“Is it good to you son?” Carolyn Kincaid asked after seeing him reluctantly stop his attentions. Harrison at least had the decency to look chastened.

“Hey Mom. Hey Em!”

“Hi son. It’s nice to see you. You haven’t been by the house for quite some time. I almost forgot I birthed three boys and not two. But enough about you. Felicia dear... You are a sight for sore eyes. How have you been sweetie?”

Felicia had always loved Emma and Harrison’s mother Carolyn. She was so warm, sweet and caring. But oh did she have a witty and smart mouth. She was the source of most of the laughter that was shared in the Kincaid household.

“I’ve been good CK. You look really great!” Carolyn wore her hair in a short page boy bob that fit her to a tee. It was sassy and sweet.

“Thank you doll! You know I try to do what I can. You look fantastic yourself sweets. How are the girls? Where are the girls?” She asked looking around to make sure she hadn’t overlooked them.

“The girls are fine. They’re over my cousin Analia’s making cookies.” It was crazy that Felicia was standing in front of her best friend and they still had yet to speak.

“That’s good. It’s actually perfect we ran into you guys. Son I saw a bike I want for Ashton and we need help getting it down. Come on and get it down for me.” Harrison gave Felicia’s hip a reassuring squeeze and followed behind his mom like the dutiful son he was.

Growing up Emma had been the Plain Jane of their class. Most didn’t seem to notice because of her spitfire personality.
